Teacher uses Map Skills book throughout year. There is a different one of 3rd and 4th but she uses one per year. The students are doing fine with this system. (KNCS)

Teacher has students make 2-3 extra maps per year in relation to various things they study (Greek expansion map, Land of Canaan, Desert map, world maps for all biomes). (KNCS)
Continental Press, MAP SKILLS-Level B (Grade 3, BACS)
The following 4th Grade map skills are covered in science: Longitude/Latitude, Locating continents/oceans, Locating deserts, rainforest, polar regions, names of specific locations (oceans, continents, Australia-cities, territories, Scandinavia. Midieval Territory-Holy Land briefly), Land of Caanan covered in religion class (4th Grade BACS)

Other things you would like to share with the committee in relation to history/social studies curriculum.

Teacher really likes how well the 3rd grade curriculum fits with the religion curriculum and map skills. (KNCS 3rd gr. yr.)

The Children of Israel and Land of Canaan units are rotated every other year and taught by a minister over the course of the year. (KNCS 3rd gr. yr.)

There is too much in 4th grade even though it is all great stuff. Lots of social studies are science and could be moved to different grades.
Biomes are great but trees, seeds, and flowers could move (1st/2nd studies them a lot). (KNCS 4th gr. yr.)

Overlap with 5th/6th problems: We've currently split the Vikings so 3/4 covers their culture and 5/6 covers Laif and exploration (this is not completely settled). Another overlap is polar exploration. 3/4 has less focus on it and 5/6 covers the exploration. (KNCS 4th gr. yr.)

The Early Christian Church is awkward to fit in and needs developing. (KNCS 4th gr. yr.)
I struggle with the community unit. Would like to discuss it further. Second Grade does a lot of that, and it feels repetitve to do the same thing. (C. Conaron, 3rd Grade, BACS)

We would like to see more history added to the curriculum. The Science and Social Studies curriculum should be seperate. We wondered where local history would fit. (4th Grade BACS)
